The legendary singer, songwriter and storyteller passed away today at 80, leaving behind a legacy that changed country music forever. Few songs capture Dolly’s gift for storytelling quite like “Jolene.” Released in 1973, the classic was inspired in part by a bank teller who had taken a liking to Dolly’s husband, Carl Dean, and went on to become one of the most beloved and covered songs in country music history. Willow Avalon put her own beautiful spin on the classic, reimagining the story with the question: what if Jolene didn’t know? It feels especially meaningful knowing Willow has long cited Dolly as one of her biggest influences. A beautiful interpretation of a timeless song by an artist whose music will live forever. 🕊️ RIP Dolly. The Queen of Country Music forever. 🤍
