Make sure you sent the full link (it includes ?party=…). A copied half-link loses the room.
If the room is private, only people with the link can get in. Share the same invite link, or list the party publicly from the host's settings.

YouTube plays the audio in each person's own browser, so everyone hears it through their own speaker or headphones. If a friend has no sound, check that their device isn't muted and that YouTube's player volume isn't at zero — the room only syncs the picture, not the audio output.
